About Nich

Welcome to my little corner of the internet!

This blog is my mouthpiece to the world, focussing on all the things I love most - travel, history, sport, books, theatre and the natural world to name but a few. In my free time I can be found with my amazing wife Lizzie, either gardening, cooking, scrabbling around an historic site, watching the orangutans at Paignton Zoo, or strolling along the quieter parts of Torbay's beautiful coastline.

I graduated with a Masters' Degree in Landscape Archaeology from the University of Exeter in 2009, and am now pursuing a career in Communications. The city of Exeter is very close to my heart (despite my footballing allegiance lying a little further south!) - I love its history, its museum, its cafes & restaurants, and its fantastic shopping.

As well as my absolute love of Devon, I really enjoy travel and the discovery of new places. I am at my happiest when pounding the pavements of an unexplored foreign city, and I am particularly fond of the French capital, Paris, the magic of which grows on me with every visit.  Other places I am fond of include Taormina in Sicily, Munich in Germany, Montpelier in France, and Jasper, Alberta, Canada.  On our honeymoon, we spent some time on the island of Rarotonga, which has become one of our most favourite places.

I am a big sports fan, and follow local boys Torquay United in the Football Conference. I am also an Arsenal fan, following in my late grandad’s footsteps, who started following the club after Clifford Bastin moved there from Exeter City in 1929! Apart from football, my main sporting interest is ice hockey - I am a fan of the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres.

I usually have numerous projects on the go at any one time. I have recently finished researching and writing my family history, an enormous project that has seen me collect hundreds of photos, certificates, census returns, old maps and other documents - blogs will appear on this subject for some time yet.  I'm also a massive fan of Lego, and have been replicating a Lego football stadium which I first built as a kid.

I hope everybody enjoys my blog. It's a real pleasure for me to update, and really makes me realise how lucky we are to live in such a wonderful world. I appreciate any feedback, so feel free to comment.
